As Rocky Mountain Middle School counselors, we are committed to helping our students in any way that we can. The success of our students, both inside and outside of our schools walls is our top priority. As counselors our responsibilities are divided into four areas to help us work most efficiently. These areas are Responsive Services, Individual Planning, Guidance Curriculum, and System Support.
Responsive Services are to help in prevention and/or intervention of immediate and future needs of students. These can be due to concerns at school or in a students home and personal life. These issues may require any of the following responsive services:
- Individual or Group Counseling
- Consultation with parents, teachers, and other educators
- Referrals to other school support services or community services
Individual Planning is a critical aspect to the counseling process. This provides an opportunity for students and counselors to discuss grades and test scores, brainstorm potential career pathways, explore colleges, make goals, and answer any other questions students or parents may have. Much of this discussion and planning takes places in 8th grade during a students PCCR (Plan for College and Career Ready), however, our doors our always open to discuss any questions at any time.
Guidance Curriculum provides the counselors the opportunity to be in the classroom teaching lessons. 7th Graders, as part of their CTE class, will hear a handful of lessons from the counselors that will explore different career fields and skills that will assist in the selection of future classes and potential career paths. Students will also hear presentations on Internet Safety, Bullying, and other topics that may come up throughout the school year.
System Support consists of management activities establishing, maintaining, and enhancing the total school counseling program. Professional school counselors are committed to continual personal and professional development. We are actively involved in continued training to help the counseling program and school run most effectively.
We first and foremost respect the privacy of our students and understand the many personal and delicate issues that many of our students are currently experiencing. Our goal is to meet with students and assist with any issues they may have, provided below is a consent form that provides permission for us to counsel with your student. Please read through the form and feel free to contact us with any questions that you may have.
